PARENTS AS PARTNERS
IN EARLY LEARNING PROJET(PPEL)

<< back   >> January update
  Who has been involved and what have we been doing:
Parents from Walworth, Bermondsey, Camberwell and Peckham have been involved in the project in many different ways over the past six months including:

• Attending training courses on early language development, and on understanding children’s behaviour patterns or Schemas;
• training to become parent mentors;
• meeting regularly with early years practitioners in their Children’s Centres, Schools and Nurseries to look at improving communication, and sharing information about their children;
• interviewing other parents;
• helping with the evaluation of the project;
• learning film and video techniques and helping to record the activities of the project;
• and, most importantly, gaining a greater understanding of how important they all are, as parents, in supporting their children’s early learning and development. Early years practitioners from Children’s Centres, Early Years Centres, Schools and Childminders have also been attending training courses, meeting regularly with parents; reviewing the content of training programmes to meet specific needs; and beginning to change the way parents are involved in sharing information with staff about their children.
